Thank you for expressing an interest in the Lakes Region Kennel Club (LRKC). We are a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of purebred and mixed breed dogs. Some of our members are breeders, most of us are currently showing our dogs in American Kennel Club (AKC) Breed, Obedience, Rally or Agility, Scent Work and some simply enjoy participating in pet therapy and other dog-related activities or working at club events. We also do Happy Ratter Trials. We all share a love of dogs and are devoted to providing assistance through teaching programs and other club related activities which help promote responsible dog ownership.
LRKC originated in 1953 and became a Member Club of the AKC in 1973. We hold a MATCH* each year in early May and also hold AKC ATT test in June, Scent Work Trials. and Rally Obedience Trials In the past we have held AKC –All Breed Point Shows along with Obedience & Rally Trials. Our annual Responsible Dog Ownership Day is held in conjunction with our Labor Day Yard Sale.
Portions of the proceeds made from our numerous activities are set aside each year in a special scholarship fund. Since 1971, we have awarded a scholarship to a qualified University of New Hampshire (UNH) graduate who is a resident of the State of New Hampshire (NH) that has been accepted to a college of veterinary medicine. In 2013 we adopted a Veterinary Technician Scholarship that is awarded to a UNH student that is a resident of the State of NH. 2022 we adopted a Veterinary Technician Scholarship that is awarded to a Great Bay Community College Student. Portions of the proceeds from our activities also are used for our Pet Oxygen Mask Fund which was started in 2007. These mask kits are presented as a donation to local emergency and rescue departments to aid in the resuscitation of animals that have been trapped in burning buildings and suffering from smoke inhalation. Our goal is to supply the entire state of New Hampshire.
The club periodically offers testing for A.K.C.’s Canine Good Citizen as well as Therapy Dog International. The club offers Scent Work Classes. Many of our members enjoy donating their time visiting hospitals, nursing homes and schools with their Therapy dogs. The club is a supporter of D.O.G.S, Dog Owners of the Granite State.
LRKC has also sponsored activities which include Tattoo, Micro-Chip, Eye, Heart and Rabies Clinics, Pet Safety, Pet First Aid and CPR training. In the late fall we hold our annual Holiday photos with the Santa Paws Program. Needless to say, all of these activities require much planning, time and work. We heartily welcome new members who share our interests and are willing to work with us to achieve our goa
